Learnings from a Letter: On Being a “Recovering Yeller” and Owning What We’ve Done

My son recently had a challenging day at school that led to a note home from his teacher.

The experience got me thinking about what I’ve learned from being a “recovering yeller” and how to support our children in learning to own what we’ve done and taking responsibility, apologizing when necessary and/or standing up for our choices, and then taking any necessary next steps.

Here’s my reflection (feel free to listen in!):

If you’re struggling with your child’s behavior right now, check out this post for some tips and ideas to try.

And in case the reminder is useful today, we’re all continually learning and practicing as we parent (and so are our children as they learn and grow!). There is no “there” where we’ll get it perfectly every time, and that’s okay. We keep showing up, trying our best, and learning as we go.

If you know someone who could use this reminder today, please share this post with them – it just might help their week go a bit smoother. ❤️
